English tenses is used to show time that an action happens in a sentence.

Example : I’m eating dinner now.

Present Continuous tense shows us that the action “eat” happens now.

All English tenses are established by combining 5 following elements:

    Future:          will + V0

    Present:        V1

    Past:               V2ed

    Perfect:         have + V3ed

    Continuous:   be + Ving

    Example 1:

    (Simple) Present:               S             +             V1s,es

    Example 2:

Present Continuous     =       Present      +      Continuous

    Present                       =       S      +    V1s,es

    +      Continuous                                   +    be               +     Ving

    Present Continuous       =      S       +   am/is/are  +      Ving

    be”   at   V1s,es   is   “am/is/are

    Example 3:

    Present                =     S     +  V1s,es

    +  Perfect                            +  have          +     V3ed

     Present Perfect        =    S       +  have/has      + V3ed

    have”   at   V1s,es    is   “have/has

    Example 4:

Present Perfect Continuous   =   Present  +  Perfect  +  Continuous

    Present           =     S   +   V1s,es

    +       Perfect                       +  have     +       V3ed

    +       Continuous                                   +      be       +   Ving

    =    S   + have/ has   +      been   + Ving

have”   at   V1,s,es   is   “have/has”   and   “be”    at   V3ed   is   “been

Use “Plus method” to establish the following tenses in English:

    1/ (Simple) Past

    2/ Past Continuous

    3/ Past Perfect

    4/ Past Perfect Continuous

    5/ (Simple) Future

    6/ Future Continuous

    7/ Future Perfect

    8/ Future Perfect Continuous

    Solution:

If you follow Plus method, you’ll have all structure as follows:

    1/      S        +        V2ed

    2/      S        +        was/were       +        Ving

    3/      S        +        had          +      V3ed

    4/      S        +        had          +      been   +     Ving

    5/      S        +        will          +       V0

    6/      S        +        will         +         be      +      Ving

If you can’t speak English naturally and fluently, it means you’ll meet one of 7 biggest mistakes as follows. Learning to solve these mistakes also means learning to speak English naturally and fluently:

      1/ Scared of making mistake:

This is the first reason that you can’t speak English well:

You’re scared that other English learners can’t understand what you say because your pronunciation is not standard -> Then, you’re not confident to speak English.

You’re scared that other English learners can’t understand what you say because your grammar is not correct -> Then, you’re not confident to speak English.

      Solution:

Learn to pronounce English in standard by learning to sing an English song. If you can sing an English song perfectly, it means your pronunciation is perfect for speaking. […]

Don’t worry about your grammar. No matter how bad your grammar is, other people can understand what you say clearly and easily. This is my experience of speaking English with native English speakers and other English learners. […]

      2/ Vocabulary:

Many English learners learn vocabulary and try to put single words into a correct sentence. It’s amazing how many single words they can remember but they can’t connect single words into a correct sentence. It’s because they didn’t learn phrases. When children learn a language, they learns words through phrases, it means they never learn any single words because single words are hard to remember and useless.

If you want to speak English fluently, learn vocabulary through phrases instead of single words. If you know 100 single words, you maybe not speak a correct sentence. But if you know one phrase, you can make hundred of correct sentences. If you know 100 phrases, you’ll surprised at how many correct sentences you can speak.

Finally, when you know 1000 phrases, you’ll be fluent in both English grammar and English Speaking.

      Solution:

Learn phrases instead of single words […]

3/ Focus so much on Grammar:

If you focus so much time on grammar, you don’t have time for making a good conversation, then you don’t know what to talk about. In stead of spending time on making a meaningful sentence, you spend it on making a correct sentence. That’s your problem.

Many of my students are bad at grammar, they can’t even write a correct sentence but their speaking skill is perfect. That’s because they focus on making a perfect conversation instead of perfect grammar.

      Solution:

If you want to speak English fluently, stop learning grammar […]

And focus on how to create content for speaking […]

      4/ Don’t practice enough Listening:

One of the reasons that you can’t speak English well is because your listening is bad. If you can’t hear what other people say in English, how do you confidently reply them in English?

      Solution:

Practice Listening frequently by movies, short conversations until your Listening is perfect […]

5/ Use common words in English Speaking:

This is also one of the reasons you can’t speak English fluently. In English, there are some common words which are used in speaking to make the conversation smoother, it means you’ll speak English smoother if you use these words in Speaking.

      Example:

1/John: Hey, Ana! Let’s go out for hot hot.

Ana: Sorry, I’m in no mood for it now.

2/ John: Hey, Ana! Let’s go out for hot hot.

Ana: Sorry, I’m not excited ate eating hot pot now.

In this example, the first phrase “I’m in no mood for it now” is shorter and smother to talk than the second one.

      Solution:

Learn these common words and practice them in speaking […]

      6/ Don’t practice enough Speaking:

It also means that you don’t know how to practice English speaking. And if you never practice speaking, you’ll never speak English fluently.

      Solution:

Find a friend (an English learners) to learn English Speaking with.

Then, try to speak English with him/her once a day within 3 months and you’ll speak English fluently as you wish […]

7/ Don’t know what to talk about:

This is the most important thing in English speaking. If you don’t know what to talk about, how do you communicate English with others? It’s almost impossible.

You may be good at Vocabulary, Grammar and excellent at Listening, you know where to find someone to speak English with, but if you don’t know what to talk about, they’re all useless.

      Solution:

Learn a method to create content for Speaking. Then, practice English with others within 3 months and you’ll speak English naturally and fluently as you wish […]

        Exercise 5: Your dream job

Use Mind Map to create a writing about the topic “Your dream job

        The sample writing:

I use Mind Map to outline everything in mind for writing:

Then, I use this Mind Map to make a writing like below:

My name is Duc and I’m 24 years old. I graduated with BBA at Marketing University. Now, I work as a sales person in a small company and my job is good!

In my plan, I want to take a position as a director in a big company. I want this job because I want to learn experience for my own business in the future.

I’ve liked doing my own business to earn money since I was a student at University. Having money, I can make my dreams come true. I want to enjoy my life, I want to help my parents with a better life and I also want to travel around the world.

To prepare for this plan, I’m trying hard and hard to learn necessary things day by day. At night, I often surf internet for learning English and sometimes I spend 3 months on short courses in academic classes to improve my skills.

I know that I’ll have a lot of difficulties on my way to reach my dreams but I never quit until the day I make my dreams come true.

I believe that life is fair, if I try hard, I’ll get my worthy reward.

          Exercise 4: Money or Knowledge

Use Mind Map to create a writing about the topic “Introduce yourself

          The sample writing:

I use Mind Map to outline everything in mind for writing:

Then, I use this Mind Map to make a writing like below:

In our modern society, money plays an important part to show the success of one person. If you can earn a lot of money, it means you’re a successful person.

If you have money, you can buy many things:

You can buy a luxury house with many rooms and your family will have a comfortable place for living.

You can help your children learn at the best school so that they can receive the best education of the world.

You can travel to anywhere you like and you can do many interesting things you want. It’s wonderful if we have a lot of money.

However, money is not everything. There are many things that money can’t buy:

Money can buy you a house but not a home. You can have a lot of money and you can buy a big house but you can’t still buy a happy family. If you want a happy family, you must build it with your own time and love.

Money can buy you education but not knowledge. You can learn at the best school with the best education but if you don’t try hard for it, don’t spend time on exercise, you’re worse than a person with good knowledge from a normal education at a normal school.

My friend once asked me “What do you choose between money and knowledge, Duc?”. Then, I replied him without any hesitation “I choose knowledge”.

Then, my friend asked me “Do you want to earn a lot of money?” Of course, I want, I really really want to earn a lot of money because I want to enjoy a comfortable life but there are so many ways to earn money, it’s not true that you only earn money from money.

I wasn’t lucky because I wasn’t born in a rich family but I never complain about that! To me, knowledge and effort are much more important than money. If I try hard to learn knowledge, someday I’ll become a successful person.

Now, I’m still a poor person but I’m on my way to become a rich person. I still work as a sales person in a small company now but I believe that if I try hard, I can become a director in a big company someday, then I can earn a lot of money.

I can do my own business to earn money if I have knowledge. Of course I don’t have so much money, so I’ll start small business first. You can start your business with a lot of money easily, but without knowledge, your business will be in failure  soon.

Lastly, money can be spent out easily but knowledge lasts forever. You can earn money, a lot of money with knowledge but you can earn money from money without knowledge. If you don’t believe, use your own money to earn money in a casino.

Writing is the most difficult skill in learning English and writing a topic is also so hard for many English learners if they don’t have enough vocabulary or don’t know how to organize their ideas in mind.

There are two kinds of topics: Daily topics and Academic topics

Daily topics are around daily situations like:

              “Introduce yourself”

“Goal! How to make it true”

              “Benefit of saving money”

              ………………

Academic topics are around events, an academic writing at school or magazine like:

“The greatest Debit Card: Subsidizes Your Purchases”

“Watch: Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech”

“Scientific Breakthrough: Stem Cells Cloned Using the ‘Dolly’ Method”

              ………………………

Academic topics are 10 times harder than daily topics for writing. If you want to write an academic topic, you must have many skills and this isn’t our goal for this lesson.

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to write daily topics by your own words and after learning the method in this lesson, you’ll be able to write a daily topic very well.

              METHOD “CREATIVE IN WRITING”

Use Mind Map to create content for a topic and then write it down.

What is Mind Map and how to use it?

Mind Map is a tool to help you maximize the ability of your brain. It combines the ability to think in language of  left brain and the ability to remember through images of right brain to help you have a great mind and solve problem quickly.

If you don’t know and never use this method, it’s your disadvantage compared to others. This method is taught and used for 500 of the world’s leading Corporations and Companies. More than 250 million people worldwide are using this method to get high efficiency in work and study.

Example: I use Mind Map to outline the topic “Goal! How to make it true” as follows:

              My writing from Mind Map:

My name is Duc, I’m 24 years old now. I’ve just graduated from Marketing University with Bachelor degree.

Like everyone, I have my own goals. I want to earn 1 million US dollars and I want to travel around the world.

To make my goals come true, I think I should find a good job with high salary and then I’ll fulfill my goals. I major in Business Administration, so I think I’ll find a job relevant to management or sales.

I also think about doing my own business. I have no idea for starting it now, maybe I can start by learning to sell something online.

I’m really happy when thinking about my dream.

After completing this writing, I have one more idea in mind and then I write it down:

“What will you do after you fulfill your goal?”

Then, I add this idea into my Mind Map:

With new idea, I continue my writing as follows:

Someone asks me “What will you do after fulfilling your goal, Duc?”

This question gets me think a lot, and I realize that I’ve just had a narrow thought in mind. I only think about myself and only focus on money. Then, I realize something more valuable in life:

Of course, I still want to earn a lot of money and if I can earn 1 million US dollars, why not for 10 millions US dollars. It’s also a part of my new goals.

I’ll help my parents have a better life. They lose so much for me, and now is the time I must take care of them for the rest of their life.

And if I have much money, I also help poor people have a better life. Charity is one of many actions I thought about.

Last of all, I always dream about a happy family for myself, and I think it’s also the dream of all people around the world. Let’s think if we have a lot money without any happiness in soul, it’s nothing.

              The end

Mind Map + Practice = master English writing within 2 weeks

If you can create a situation and practice writing English as example above, I’m sure you can write English on daily topic fluently within 2 weeks.

How to use Mind Map to master English writing?

It’s simple, 2 things you need are a pen and a paper.

Mind Map for English includes 3 steps:

Step 1: Topic for English writing

Write the topic in the center of the paper.

Example: “Goal! How to make it true”

Step 2: Write things related to this topic.

Write down everything you think is relevant to this topic. You shouldn’t care if your writing is true or false, just write down the things in your mind.

Ask yourself things relevant to this topic and then write them down in the paper. The relevant things are often a series of questions, finding relevant things to the topic means finding relevant questions to this topic.

Example: For the topic “Goal”, I find out 3 relevant things  “introduce yourself“, “goal” and “make it true“.

Then, I write them down in Mind Map as follows:

Then, if you find out other ideas relevant to this topic, write them down in Mind Map.

Example: In the topic above, I find out one more idea, then I write in down in Mind Map as follows:

Step 3: Find the answers to this topic and then use them to write a meaningful writing.

By answering the questions in the topic by yourself and connect them into a writing, you’ll have a perfect writing.

Of course, you can’t have a perfect writing for the first time. By practice, your writing skills will be better and better and then you can write an academic writing in English perfectly.

              EXERCISE FOR WRITING:

              Introduce yourself

Goal! How to make it true!

              Benefit of saving money!

What do you choose between money and knowledge?

What job are you looking for?

If you can complete these 5 topics with good writings, you pass this lesson. Congratulations! The last thing you should try to do to master English Writing perfectly is to learn how to write academic topics. Then, you complete the schedule for English learner for all levels.
