In English, there are 4 basic word types:

N: student, apple, …

V: study, eat, …

Adj: beautiful, careful, …

Adv: beautifully, carefully, …

 

1. Adjective (Adj):

Adj is a word to supplement the meaning for Pronoun or Noun

Ex: She         is        beautiful

Adj “beautiful” supplement for Pron-S “She”

Ex: Apple       is         sweety

Adj “sweety” supplement for Noun-S “Apple”

Ex: I   eat          sweety    apple

Adj “sweety” supplement for N “apple”

Position of Adjective:

S          +          V         +          O

Adj + N     be + Adj         Adj + N

 

2. Adverb (Adv):

Adv is a word or a phrase to supplement the meaning for Vmain

Adv includes 4 basic types:

Advmanner: supplement for Vmain, to show how the action happens

Advfrequency: supplement for Vmain, to show how often the action happens

Advplace: supplement for Vmain, to show where the action happens

Advtime: supplement for Vmain, to show when the action happens

Position of 4 types of Adv:

a. Adverb manner:

Advmanner is placed in front of and behind Vmain

Ex: I  eat apple happily everyday            adv = “happily” behind Verb = “eat”

–    I happily eat apple   everyday     adv = “happily” in front of Verb = “eat”

b. Adverb frequency includes 2 groups:

–      Group 1: include the following words:

Always              usually

Often                  sometimes

Advfrequency1 is placed in front of Vmain.

Ex:   I often eat apple at home

     Group 2: include the word with “every”

Everyday                              everyweek

Every month                       every year …

Ex:      I    eat    apple   everyday.

or       Everyday, I   eat  apple.

c. Adverb place:

Ex:    I   eat   apple   at home

or      At home, I   eat  apple

d. Adverb time:

Ex:    I will eat  apple  tomorrow.

or     Tomorrow, I will eat  apple.

Position of Adverb:

S  +  Advmanner + Vmain + Advmanner  +  O
