How many + Ncountplural       How many apples do you eat everyday?

Method:

This is the method to help you ask an English question in correct grammar.

Example 1: John studies English everyday.

Step 1: Define the question word for the underlined word:

In the above sentence, the underlined word is “English” = “What”:

John studies English everyday.

what

Step 2: Define S and V:

With Vmodal “will, can, could, should,…” or “be”

=>   Vmodal + S + Vmaino

Without Vmodal or “be”=> use Vauxiliary “do,does,did” and turn Vmain into Vmaino

=> Do/does/did + S + Vmaino?

In this sentence, “studies” is not Vmodal and “S = John” is singular:

=>  Do/does/did + Ssingular + Vmaino = does John study

Step 3: write a full sentence:

What does she study everyday?

Example 2:    John goes to school by bus everyday.

Step 1:      by bus = means of transport => “how”

John goes to school by bus everyday.

how

Step 2:      “goes” is not Vmodal and “be”, and S = John is singular:

=>  Do/does/did + Ssingular + Vmaino = does John go

Step 3:      How does John go to school everyday?

Example 3: John will go to school by bus tomorrow.

Step 1:      by bus : means of transport  => “how”

John will go to school by bus tomorrow.

how

Step 2:      “will” is Vmodal => will + S + Vmaino = will John go

Step 3:      How will John go to school tomorrow?

Specific Situation:

  •  S = “I” => turn “I” into  “you”

Example:      “I    eat    apple!”

You           what

What do  you eat?

  • If the question word = S

=> the underlined word = the question word.

I eat apple!     =>     Who eat apple?
