Positive Sentence: S + V1s,es 

Vmain     : S + Vmains,es              :  go, play, eat

Vmodal   : S +Vmodal + Vmaino      :  can, should, may, must…

Be             : S + am/is/are        :  am, is, are

Use of The Simple Present:

An action often happens         I go to school everyday

An event is always true          The earth travels around the Sun

In English, tenses are defined by the time word in the sentence.

  Time word for The Simple Present:

–        Every: everyday, every morning, every month, every year …

–        Often, usually, always, sometimes …

–        If there is no time word in the sentence, we always use The Simple Present.

 

1/ S + Vmain = S + V1s,es

Ssingular + Vmain singular  with “s,es”          John plays football everyday

Splural  + Vmain plural without “s,es”           We play football everyday

S = “I” + Vmain plural without “s,es”             I play football everyday

S = “You” + Vmain plural without “s,es”      You play football everyday

2/ S + Vmodal + Vmaino (Vmaino =  Vmain without “s,es”)

John can play football everyday.

We can play football everyday.

You can play football everyday.

3/ S + be = S + am/is/are

Ssingular + be singular  “is”            John is a good student

Splural  + be plural  “are”                We are good student

S = “I” + be = am                              I am a good student

S = “You” + be = are                       You are a good student

 

Exercise: Use the correct Verb form

1/ He (eat)                                  apple everyday.

2/ John and David (eat)                                   apple everyday.

3/ I (eat)                                      apple everyday.

4/ You (eat)                                apple everyday.

5/ John (can eat)                                   apple everyday.

6/ John and David (can eat)                                       apple everyday.

7/ I (can eat)                                           apple everyday.

8/ You (can eat)                         apple everyday.

9/ John  and David (be)                                               an excellent doctor.

10/ I (be)                                     an excellent doctor.

Solution:

1/ He        eats                apple everyday.

2/ John and David         eat                  apple everyday.

3/ I          eat        apple everyday.

4/ You      eat      apple everyday.

5/ John       can eat         apple everyday.

6/ John and David         can eat           apple everyday.

7/ I      cat eat      apple everyday.

8/ You      can eat           apple everyday.

9/ John  and David                    are                  excellent doctors.

10/ I        am        an excellent doctor.
