The Past Continuous:

Positive:        S + was/were + Ving

Negative:        S + was/wer + not + Ving

Yes/No:         Was/were + S + Ving …?

W-H:              W-H + was/were + S + Ving … ?

Notice:

Ssingular + be = “was”

Ssingular + be = “were”

S = “I” + be = “was”

S = “You” + be = “were”

The Past Continuous:

–        The Past Continuous is used to express an action that was interrupted by the time in the past.

Time word: “an exact time word in the past”

Ex:      I was studying English at 3 p.m yesterday.

–        The Past Continuous is also used to express 2 actions that happened at the same time in the past.

Time word:

“While”                “When”

Ex: While I was studying English, Lan was watching TV yesterday.

–    When I was studying English, Lan was watching TV yesterday.

 

Exercise 1: Use the correct Verb form

1/ John (eat)                                           apple at 2 p.m yesterday.

2/ We (eat)                                             apple at 2 p.m yesterday.

3/ I (eat)                                                  apple at 2 p.m yesterday.

4/ You (eat)                                            apple at 2 p.m yesterday.

5/ John (not eat)                                                apple at 2 p.m yesterday.

6/ We (not eat)                                      apple at 2 p.m yesterday.

7/ While John (eat)                                           apple, I was watching TV yesterday.

8/ While I (watch)                                             TV, John was eating apple yesterday.

10/ What                         you (eat)                               at 2 p.m yesterday?
